Indications

  • High risk of pseudoarthrosis because of shear component
  • High risk of pseudoarthrosis because of poor anterior column apposition

Contraindications

  • lumbosacral kyphosis

Advantages

  • Greater spinal construct stability

Disadvantages

  • Greater nerve root manipulation increasing risk of epidural scarring
