The lateral position is used for dorsal approaches to the shoulder joint, glenoid or scapula.
The prone position is reserved for procedures that require extensive exposure of the scapular body and/or glenoid neck.
The beach chair provides anterior and lateral access to the shoulder joint while prohibiting posterior open approaches.
The supine position facilitates combined surgical approaches for a polytrauma patient.
