 Intramedullary K-wire fixation is mainly used in subcapital fractures of the metacarpals.

Intramedullary K-wire fixation is mainly used in subcapital fractures of the metacarpals, especially the fifth metacarpal (“Boxer’s fracture”). With this technique, impairment of tendon gliding over an implant placed distally on the bone is avoided.
