Cast or splint fixation without reduction

Main indication: Stable fracture, minimally displaced and angulated

Skill: Basic surgical experience, no specialized skills
Equipment: Basic equipment only

A well-molded cast and radiographic follow-up are recommended to ensure maintenance of satisfactory fracture position. If acceptable position cannot be obtained and maintained, operative stabilization should be considered.

Advantages

  • No anesthesia
  • Later change of treatment possible

Disadvantages

  • Risk of displacement
