Supporting indications

  • Medullary canal too narrow for adequate intramedullary nail diameter
  • Bowing with osteotomy

Advantages

  • Easy control of ulnar length and alignment
  • Ability to adjust without further anesthesia

Disadvantages

  • Pin-track infection
  • Neurovascular injury
  • Pin-site scars
  • General anesthesia required
  • Demanding technique
  • Uncomfortable
  • Image intensifier or arthrotomy necessary for radial head visualization
