The Monteggia lesion is a combination of bowing, greenstick or complete fracture of the ulna with a radiocapitellar joint dislocation.
This injury can occur in all age groups but may be overlooked in the younger child with plastic deformity or greenstick fracture of the ulna and with dislocation of the unossified radial head.
Usually the angulation of the ulnar fracture points in the same direction as the dislocation of the radial head.
