The posterior injury is a complete fracture of the posterior ilium.
This is classified as an AO/OTA 61C1.1 injury.
Anterior injury
Anterior injury is one or more of the following:
- Symphyseal disruption
- Pubis (uni/bilateral, ipsi/contralateral)
- Ramus (uni/bilateral, ipsi/contralateral)

The posterior injury is a completely unstable injury through the SI joint, either:
- Transiliac fracture dislocation (crescent fracture) with complete S-I displacement)
- Pure SI dislocation
This is classified as an AO/OTA 61C1.2 injury.

- Symphyseal disruption
- Pubis (uni/bilateral, ipsi/contralateral)
- Ramus (uni/bilateral, ipsi/contralateral)

This is classified as an AO/OTA 61C1.3 injury.
