General considerations

This fracture involves a large varus producing force on the foot upon landing from a height. Displacement of the sustentaculum produces a varus position of the hindfoot with poor consequences. Accurate reconstruction with a medial approach an anatomic restoration of the calcaneus.

  • Isolated displaced sustentaculum fracture

Advantages

  • Accurate reconstruction of a complex middle facet fracture
  • Late reconstruction is extremely difficult
