Supporting indications

  • Good bone quality
  • Unacceptable deformity
  • Need for more stability and/or earlier mobilization

Advantages

  • Minimal soft-tissue damage vs. plate fixation

Disadvantages

  • No exposure for reduction
  • Limited stability
  • Risk of damage to the axillary nerve
  • Not suitable for most transverse fractures
