  • Instability of metaphyseal component
  • Workable plan for tuberosity reduction and fixation
  • Unacceptable deformity
  • Need for more stability and/or earlier mobilization

Advantages

  • Minimal soft-tissue damage 
  • Earlier mobilization
  • Reduction of the metaphyseal fracture component is aided by the nail itself

Disadvantages

  • Poorly suited for most displaced tuberosities
  • No exposure for reduction
  • Risk of damage to the axillary nerve
  • Violation of the rotator cuff
